Some of the best events near La Défense, Paris in January 2020

Just because Christmas is over doesn’t mean that the celebrations are.

Just because the fireworks went off at midnight at the Eiffel Tower doesn’t mean that everyone stops having fun around the city.

January is an excellent time of year to visit Paris. Walks along the Seine and the parks are brisk. There’s a chill that will wake anyone up first thing in the morning, and evenings spent exploring the little neighbourhoods around our part of town are magical.

Are you visiting Paris this January and wondering what special events there are that most tour guide books don’t tell you about? Let Fraser Suites Harmonie La Défense be your guide to the best events in Paris this month; from ice skating in a nightclub to watching the NBA live in Paris for the first time.

Top events in Harmonie in January 2020:

    • Ice Rink at Le Grand Palais des Glaces – 1st to 8th January
    • Tape Face at Bobino – 2nd to 5th January
    • PSG VS Monaco at Le Parc des Princes – 12th January
    • Charlotte Hornets VS Milwaukee Bucks at AccorHotels Arena – 24th January

    • Editors at Salle Pleyel – 30th January

Our pick of the ten best events this January:

Ice Rink at Le Grand Palais

    • Date: 1st to 8th January
    • Venue: Le Grand Palais des Glaces

Christmas may be over, but that doesn’t mean we have to pack up everything just yet.

The first week of the month still sees a lot of people off work and school, giving the perfect excuse to pop on skates and head to the Grand Palace for a few runs around the rink.

If you haven’t been before, don’t be surprised at how big the whole affair is. They like to boast that it is the largest indoor rink in the world.

Full information is available from the official website here, but we’ve been told it’s best to visit after 8 pm when it turns into a giant nightclub on ice.

    Tape Face

    • Date: 2nd to 5th January
    • Venue: Bobino

In between sell-out shows as part of his Las Vegas residency, Tape Face has been performing select dates in Paris over winter, and this run at the start of January will be his last for a while.

Even if you don’t know the name, you’ll have seen his videos online from America’s Got Talent of his prop comedy and mime performances.

    Tape Face

    PSG VS Monaco

    • Date: 12th January
    • Venue: Le Parc Des Princes

Now that Christmas is over, football is back!

Things always get off to a slow start in January and this fixture in the middle of the month is PSG’s only game at home this month.

If you’re looking for something fun to do on a Sunday afternoon, you can’t get any better than a PSG game.

    Charlotte Hornets VS Milwaukee Bucks

    • Date: 24th January
    • Venue: AccorHotels Arena

Your eyes are not deceiving you at all. The NBA is coming to town to play a season game in Paris. This is the only game being played in Europe as part of the 2019-20 season and is expected to be a sell-out.

Full event information is available from NBAevents.com

    Two Door Cinema Club

    • Date: 23rd January
    • Venue: L’Olympia

The Northern Irish gents will be gracing the stage at L’Olympia to perform select cuts from new album False Album as well as certified hits from Tourist History and Beacon.

Tickets and full information are available from the L’Olympia website here.

    The Darkness

    • Date: 26th January
    • Venue: La Cigale

Get yourself ready with some vocal warmups if you want to hit those high notes during I Believe In A Thing Called Love or Growing On Me.

The band will be coming to town on the back of the release of their sixth studio album Easter Is Cancelled, so expect guitars turned up to the max.

    The Darkness

A Bowie Celebration: The David Bowie Alumni Tour

    • Date: 25th January
    • Venue: Salle Pleyel

This has to be one of the hidden gems in the calendar this month and arguably the closest you’ll get to experiencing what a real David Bowie gig could’ve been.

This particular tribute act of sorts is a supergroup made up entirely of former Bowie band members. A rotating cast of musicians who have toured with and played for the rock legend all take turns performing classics from the back catalogue.

Five Finger Death Punch, Megadeath and Bad Wolves

    • Date: 28th January
    • Venue: Zénith

The first of two big metal gigs taking place at the end of the month (with Slipknot below being the second), the three header line-up is going to delight metal fans across the city in one of the best venues for acts like this.

Ticket information is available from the Zénith website here.

    Slipknot at AccortHotels Arena

    Slipknot

    • Date: 30th January
    • Venue: AccorHotels Arena

Things up about to get very loud in the 12th arrondissement when American metal band Slipknot make a stop in Paris. They’re here as part of their We Are Not Your Kind tour, fresh from the release of their sixth album of the same title.

The album reached No.2 in the album charts earlier this year, and they have a large fanbase here France so expect a ruckus evening.

    Editors

    • Date: 30th January
    • Venue: Salle Pleyel

Prefer low key indie to the likes of Slipknot? Then Editors might do the trick. The UK indie band is back on the road for the first time in years after the success of their sixth album Violence.
